Hello everyone! ChemQuest is excited to present the release of our official newsletter! In this newsletter, we aim to provide the community with STEM opportunities and insight 🔍 to help you or your student excel in the science fields and gain valuable experiences to aid them in the years to come. 🧪

Science Fair

  • ​The October 13th 2024 fair was incredibly successful! We had a great deal of kids show up and present their incredible projects to our judges.
    Grade categories:   3 & 4,   5 & 6,   7 & 8

  • Top 3 contestants from each category received a trophy and medal for their hard work! 🏆🏅

S’mores Fundraiser

  • Collaboration with GVHS Chemistry Club & Chemistry Department

  • Provided us with bunsen burners!​ 

  • Using bunsen burners, the combined team worked to provide our peers with delicious treats! 🔥

Science Opportunities/STEM Programs/Internships 🔬

BEAM Pathway Program

  • Description: During your first summer with the BEAM Pathway Program, you will get to live in college dorms on a campus outside the city, surrounded by nature, as you study interesting mathematics, meet friends, and explore a new place with activities and trips. The summer program is three weeks long, and it is free for all participants. This includes food, lodging, transportation, and activities. 

  • Age/Grade: 6th-7th Grade

  • Cost: Free

  • Deadline/Registration: Opens early in 2025 [not confirmed]

dynaMIT

  • Description: dynaMIT is a completely free, week-long science program for economically disadvantaged middle-school students hosted on the MIT campus. The program focuses on inspiring students to be interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields through fun and educational activities, challenges, and projects. 

  • Age/Grade: Rising 6-9 grade students from the Boston area

  • Cost: FREE

  • Deadline/Registration: March 2025

SEE: Summer Engineering Experience

  • Description: SEE by Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering, is a week-long program designed for rising 8th and 9th graders. SEE provides hands-on exposure to various engineering fields under the theme of ‘Making & Engineering.’ This work-learn program introduced students to engineering disciplines and  principles of design. 

  • Age/Grade: Rising 8th and 9th graders

  • Cost: FREE

  • Deadline/Registration: Applications open in February 2025

Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers Program

  • Description: Verizon STEM Achievers aims to empower middle school students in under-resourced communities to explore STEM subjects and gain exposure to career opportunities in technology. Students will receive mentorship, access to next-gen technology and hands-on training connected to learn design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality, etc.

  • Age/Grade: 6th-8th

  • Cost: FREE

  • Deadline/Registration: Varies; typically early Spring

Penn GEMS

  • Description: Penn GEMS is a week-long day camp targeting middle school students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade that focuses on bioengineering, nanotechnology, materials science, graphics and computing. The Penn GEMS Summer Camp is highly dedicated to providing hands-on activities to engage middle school students in applied science, technology and engineering.

  • Age/Grade: 7th-9th

  • Cost: $650

  • Deadline/Registration: March 2024

Summer CHOICES Camp

  • Description: The Summer CHOICES Engineering Camp is a hands-on learning experience in engineering and science for 6th, 7th, or 8th grade middle-school girls. The camp is designed to provide the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun engineering and science experiments led by women engineers from Lehigh University.

  • Age/Grade: Grade 6, 7 or 8 based on the 2024-2025 academic year

  • Cost: $300 [Financial Aid Available]

  • Deadline/Registration: Opens December 2nd 2024
